• Child custody and visitation. If you have primary custody, we will fight to help you keep it. We believe that maintaining a stable and secure environment for your children is of utmost importance. If you do not have primary custody but believe that your children are living in an abusive or dangerous environment, we can help you. Often we can secure an emergency order to remove the child or prevent the custodial parent from leaving the state. If you are seeking visitation, we will work closely with you to see that you get fair access to your children.
• Child support. The support amount is calculated based upon a formula (the North Carolina Child Support Guidelines) that takes into account the incomes of each parent, health insurance, day care and any other extraordinary expenses. We will work carefully to make sure that each parent's income is accurately reflected and uncover any attempts to hide or manipulate income figures.
• Enforcement of orders. If your ex-spouse is not complying with the terms of the custody order, or not living up to his or her support obligations, we will go to court to seek enforcement and sanctions where necessary.
• Modification of orders. Where there has been a substantial change in circumstances, whether financial or in living situation, a modification of an existing child custody, visitation or support order may be worth exploring. We will help you understand your rights and provide you a realistic assessment of potential outcomes.
• Registration of out-of-state orders. If you have a child custody or child support order that was issued by another state, it will have to be registered in North Carolina to be enforceable in this state. We can offer experienced assistance in getting your order registered.
